So if you have checked out my photograpy links on the left, you will have already spent a mind numbing amount of time on strobist.com… you did go read it.. right?  Well I got myself a setup that David Hobby suggests to do off camera lighting.  I ordered a kit that included light stand, umbrella, wireless triggers and various other gizmos.  After wondering if the package would ever arrive, it finally did today!  The timing was actually good since a nearly hellish week is over and Grace had her Team Oregon class from 6-9pm tonight.  That left me hours of free time to just tinker with the setup and see what I could do.  :)

     I coupled this kit with a Nikon SB-28 I purchased a few weeks ago, again on the suggestion of David Hobby at strobist.com.  I took a little messing but I was able to get some pretty good results using just a single flash with a shoot through umbrella.  After taking pictures of a few lenses, flashlights and knives I figured I would give it the acid test and take a pic of myself which you can see below.

     Yeah I know, it makes even me look pretty good!  If I had a reflector off to camera left I could have tamed a bunch of those shadows on my face.  I would have tried it but this shot was the last I got before the battery in my camera was dead.  Oh well, makes for a more dramatic shot I guess?  :)

     I am looking forward to messing with this setup during the coming weeks while I wait for my d90 to ship. I pre-ordered it from Amazon so I could get on the list early but  I am going to head down to my local camera shop to see what they can do for me soon.

     In work news I think I have some web design work coming up here soon.  I am excited for it but am a bit cautious as I got burned pretty bad recently.  You can bet I will be getting some money up front this time because as they say “Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.”  Over thirty hours of work on a web site just to be told somebody else was asked to do it leaves a nasty taste in your mouth for sure!

     In other news, the fair is this weekend.  The fair is actually about 25 miles south of here in Northern California but is worlds better than the fair we have in town.  So I am hoping to take Grace and her son out there this weekend, along with my camera of course.  :)  If I get any keepers I will probably post them here for all of you to appreciate.  Is funny how I say “all of you”.. as if I get a lot of reads…. YET  :)
