So lets see, what is a good way to spend a Sunday? Maybe do yard work or perhaps do your laundry and cleaning? That sounds all to boring, it is labor day weekend after all!
Well I decided to fire up my iron horse and give it a spin. I ended up on my way to Ashland via Highway 66 but was defeated at the top of the pass by the cold. I stopped at Tub Springs state park and sat in the sun for 30 minutes warming myself up. During this time I called Grace and had decided I would just head back, instead of go on to Ashland, another 20 or so miles down the road. I figured if I was freezing now, I would be REALLY cold when I was riding home in another hour. I REALLY did not want to head back but my common sense over powered my stubborness.
The good news is that I recorded most of the trip with my video camera. Once I get videos up I will probably link to them here but we shall see. I did, however, stop and take the pic you see below. I did not realize what this was on the way up but coming back down it sure brought a smile to my very cold face.

I do not know who came up with it, perhaps the people who own the Pinehurst Inn Bed & Breakfast in the background? I do know I appreciated it as I needed something to make me smile through my misery…
.
Even though I did not make it to my destination and I’m sure I had ice hanging from my bal fingers, it was a fun little adventure. Riding on unfamiliar and challenging roads with no time constraint was a nice change from my normal around town riding. It really gave me more desire to ride up to Crater Lake this year which I now put in the “definite” category!
